I understand that Nualgi contains copper. Copper is toxic to fish. How can this be safe for fish and other animals in the aquarium.February 15, 2014 at 10:59 pm #720
Jodi H. asked “I see that your product has copper in it, we have a puffer and copper is not safe for them, I am assuming we cannot use your product?”
Our response-Nualgi does contain Cu but as it is a nano formulation, 1 ml contains 0.0000001 gms of cu.
Nualgi particles are 5 to 50 nanometers in diameter. 1 millimeter = 1,000,000 nanometers. Traditional products are either “coarse particles” with a diameter of 2,500 to 10,000 nanometers or “fine particles” with a diameter of 100 to 2,500 nanometers. Nano particles are known to have different properties than larger sized particles of the same element. Nano particles have a larger active surface area and can suspend themselves in liquid and are therefore more efficient.
Other products may contain copper and those elements could harm fish in bigger particle sizes. Nualgi is safe for fish and we have had more than one extreme overdose with no loss of fish or corals.March 11, 2014 at 3:11 pm #1899
Though I have been using it for over four weeks and have seen improvement in coral and the overall health to my system. I was wondering why there is even copper in this product and what is its purpose.March 11, 2014 at 10:25 pm #1912
A minute amount of copper is required for the diatom bloom. Here is the full post from our FAQ page where we cover this topic exhaustively
