Nualgi uses the nutrients in the tank to create diatoms which are consumed by Zooplankton. Zooplankton is the natural live feed for fish and coral. Coraline algae also needs nutrients but diatoms out compete it and therefore slows down its growth. Having said that, Nualgi improves pH of the water as diatoms produce more oxygen and absorb Co2. We know that Coraline Algae in the ocean is being negatively affected by ocean acidification caused by excessive Co2.
Have just added my fourth dose of nualgi to my test tank have had no negative or positive affects on coraline. Cannot comment on if it would inhibit coraline but it has significantly reduced blue/ green algae and appears to be reducing detritus
So I have seen positive results but it is incomplete would like to give it another 2 weeks before giving it a definite thumbs up but that being said so far so good
