How do you prevent a drop in DO after the diatom bloom. After most algae blooms, the algae die once they have used up the nutrients available to them, and then create hypoxic water conditions once they decompose. Is there a mechanism in place with this product to prevent this? ~David Durieux

One of the most significant differences between Diatoms and other algae is that Diatoms are consumed by Zooplankton and Fish, so they do NOT die and decompose, so the DO does not decline when diatoms grow. The Carbon, N and P is consumed and the O2 remains behind in the water.

The reason why small and periodic dosing of Nualgi is necessary is to keep the diatom biomass steady, using the daily input of nutrients in the feces of the fish and uneaten food, large and irregular dosing can cause sudden boom and bust.
