Does my water temperature or lighting have an impact on the algae in my tank?

Green and Blue-Green algae proliferates in warmer temperatures while diatoms like lower temperatures. This is one of the reasons why natural lakes are so much clearer in spring than in summer. For algae to grow, it needs nutrients (N and P), light and warm water.

For Nualgi to help prevent nuisance algae from taking hold in your tank, recommend maintaining your water temperature at 75-76 degrees F.

What about lighting?

Beside water temperature and nutrients, algae needs light to grow. We recommend around 8 hours of lighting for your tank. It is also important to ensure that the light is not too intense at the bottom of the tank near the substrate. Nualgi should be dosed early in the lighting cycle with at least 4 hours of lighting left to go.
