Nualgi Trial Update - Day #32

I'm gonna say that the Green Water's reign of terror is over! There is still a little bit of cloudiness, but I was finally able to do some sorely needed trimming of the DHG, Red Ludwigia, Water Wisteria, and little Elodea & Pearl Grass.

  • Current Fauna:
    • 1x Female Betta
    • 2x Otocinclus
    • 5x Khuli Loaches
    • 1x Green? Shrimp (definitely not an Amano Shrimp)
    • ?x Ghost Shrimp
  • Water Quality:
    • Ammonia - 0PPM
    • Nitrite - 0PPM
    • Nitrate - 0PPM
    • PH - 6.5

Nualgi Trial Update - Day #28

Another 4 days and another small improvement. :)

  • Current Fauna:
    • 1x Female Betta
    • 2x Otocinclus
    • 5x Khuli Loaches
    • 1x Green? Shrimp (definitely not an Amano Shrimp)
    • ?x Ghost Shrimp
  • Water Quality:
    • Ammonia - 0PPM
    • Nitrite - 0PPM
    • Nitrate - 0PPM
    • PH - 6.5

Nualgi Trial Update - Day #24

The tank looks a little more clear again! I'm liking this progress. I do have to say, in the spirit of full disclosure, I did do a larger than normal water change because of some filter maintenance. In spite of that, the tank is still making slow but steady progress in clearing up.

  • Current Fauna:
    • 1x Female Betta
    • 2x Otocinclus
    • 5x Khuli Loaches
    • 1x Green? Shrimp (definitely not an Amano Shrimp)
    • ?x Ghost Shrimp
  • Water Quality:
    • Ammonia - 0PPM
    • Nitrite - 0PPM
    • Nitrate - 0PPM
    • PH - 6.5

Nualgi Trial Update - Day #20

The tank does look like it's starting to clear! It's more noticeable today. It's not a dramatic change, but it's real progress!

  • Current Fauna:
    • 1x Female Betta
    • 3x Otocinclus
    • 5x Khuli Loaches
    • 1x Green? Shrimp (definitely not an Amano Shrimp)
    • ?x Ghost Shrimp
  • Water Quality:
    • Ammonia - 0PPM
    • Nitrite - 0PPM
    • Nitrate - 0PPM
    • PH - 6.5

Nualgi Trial Update - Day #16

Green water is still present.

I am going to reach out to Nualgi and see how I can improve the situation. Since this is a new product I'm sure there are things I can do to optimize the results a little better. On a side note; I took a gallon jug filled with the water from the tank last Sunday and put that into a pitch black environment. It's still green! I'd say only 50%of the cyanobacteria died off from the lack of light and it's been 5 days now! That much darkness would have killed most of my DHG.

  • Current Fauna:
    • 1x Female Betta
    • 3x Otocinclus
    • 5x Khuli Loaches
    • 1x Green? Shrimp (definitely not an Amano Shrimp)
    • ?x Ghost Shrimp (I saw a couple babies near the front glass!)
  • Water Quality:
    • Ammonia - 0PPM
    • Nitrite - 0PPM
    • Nitrate - 0PPM
    • PH - 6.4

Nualgi Trial Update - Day #12

The Amazon Frogbit I ordered arrived on day 9

The Amazon Frogbit I ordered arrived on day 9 and was put into that same day (after making sure it was snail free). Nualgi responded to the video for day 8 asking me to give it another week before contacting them to figure out the Green Water stalemate. So I am doing as they ask. So far I am doing water changes for my weekly maintenance and again before dosing Nualgi to the tank.

  • Current Fauna:
    • 1x Female Betta
    • 3x Otocinclus
    • 5x Khuli Loaches
    • 1x Green? Shrimp (definitely not an Amano Shrimp)
    • ?x Ghost Shrimp (I saw a couple babies near the front glass!)
  • Water Quality:
    • Ammonia - 0PPM
    • Nitrite - 0PPM
    • Nitrate - 0PPM
    • PH - 6.4

Nualgi Trial Update - Day #8

Green water is still here... it doesn't look like a lot of progress has been made. I think I am going to be calling in some reinforcements to deal with it.

I'm hoping some Frogbit will help, and as a last resort a UV filter just to kill it. I may use the UV sterilizer just to tip the scale in Nualgi's favor so it can finish the job. This Cyanobacteria is really tough. One of the first water changed I did 2 weeks ago was stored in a jar along with some Anacharis clippings. The water is just now starting to turn clear after sitting in a dark room with no light (it's a storage room)!

  • Current Fauna:
    • 1x Female Betta
    • 3x Otocinclus
    • 5x Khuli Loaches (couldn't let the last one stay lonely!)
    • 1x Amano Shrimp (not 100% sure they are really Amano Shrimp)
    • 14x Ghost Shrimp (as expected, a few died off from the bunch)
  • Water Quality:
    • Ammonia - 0PPM
    • Nitrite - 0PPM
    • Nitrate - 0PPM
    • PH - 6.5

Nualgi Trial Update - Day #4

Still dealing with Cyanobacteria (Green Water Algae). It doesn't seem to have gotten any worse than Day 1. When you consider that my photo period is running normally, I'm impressed that it's at least held it in check if not made some improvement.

  • Current Fauna:
    • 1x Female Betta
    • 3x Otocinclus
    • 5x Khuli Loaches (couldn't let the last one stay lonely!)
    • 1x Amano Shrimp (not 100% sure they are really Amano Shrimp)
    • 14x Ghost Shrimp (as expected, a few died off from the bunch)
  • Water Quality:
    • Ammonia - 0PPM
    • Nitrite - 0PPM
    • Nitrate - 0PPM
    • PH - 6.5

Nualgi Trial Update - Day #1

As luck would have it (bad for me, good for them?), my tank developed a case of "green water" right after I signed up for this trial.

  • Current Fauna:
    • 1x Female Betta
    • 3x Otocinclus
    • 1x Khuli Loaches
    • 1x Amano Shrimp (not 100% sure it is really an Amano Shrimp)
    • 14x Ghost Shrimp
  • Water Quality:
    • Ammonia - 0PPM
    • Nitrite - 0PPM
    • Nitrate - 0PPM
    • PH - 6.5 (CO2 is why it's down)

Day 1 – Day 32 Photo Gallery
